PETG Flame Retardant V0

PETG V0 is a flame-retardant grade of PETG certified to UL94 V0 (self-extinguishing, no flaming drips). It is used for products requiring fire safety certification — electronics enclosures, architectural elements, public installations.

PETG V0 typically extrudes at lower temperatures than standard PETG because the flame retardant additives change the melt viscosity:

The flame retardant additives in V0 PETG absorb moisture more readily than standard PETG.

Visual signs of wet V0 pellets:

  • Yellowish discoloration of pellets
  • Small bubble or drop visible inside the granule (water trapped during pellet manufacturing)
  • Foamy, bubbly extrusion

Always dry PETG V0 thoroughly before printing, even if the bag appears sealed:

PETG V0 can adhere to the screw surface more than standard PETG, causing inconsistent extrusion or feeding problems.

Fix: add a small amount of SmoothFlow lubricant or Liquid Masterbatch to the pellets before loading. The oil matrix in liquid masterbatch acts as a lubricant, and SmoothFlow is specifically designed for this.

Some batches of V0 PETG can be inconsistent in quality — the flame retardant compound is a separate additive and its distribution in the pellet affects flow. If you experience unexpected behavior:

  1. Dry thoroughly
  2. Compare with a small sample of standard PETG to isolate the variable
  3. Try PETG B1S1D0 as an alternative if V0 is causing persistent issues

Flame retardant additives can release different compounds than standard PETG when melted. Always print in a well-ventilated space or with an air filtration system. Do not heat above the recommended temperature — thermal degradation of the additives produces more off-gassing.
