Machine won't start — Red emergency button

The most common reason a freshly delivered or recently moved G1 “won’t start” is the red emergency mushroom button, accidentally pressed during shipping or handling.

Symptoms

Section titled “Symptoms”
  • The printer doesn’t power up, or the display is on but unresponsive
  • Firmware Restart from the Klipper interface has no effect
  • The red mushroom button on the frame is visibly flush with its housing (pressed in)
  • Customer says: “It was working when I unboxed it, now nothing happens”

Cause

The red emergency stop is a rotary latch switch: when pressed, it locks down and physically interrupts the safety circuit. No software action can release it. See Emergency stop button for how it works.

Fix

Section titled “Fix”
  1. Locate the red mushroom button on the machine frame
  2. Rotate it clockwise (as if unscrewing a jar lid) until it pops up
  3. Confirm the button is fully extended — its head should clearly stand above the housing
  4. Run Firmware Restart in the Klipper / Mainsail interface to bring the printer back online
  5. Verify the machine responds to commands

How to prevent

  • During transport, vibrations and impacts can press the button — always check it’s released after moving the machine
  • At first boot, before troubleshooting anything else, look at the emergency button
  • Inform new operators that this button is a physical latch and only releases with a clockwise twist
