Camera

The G1 supports a standard USB webcam for print monitoring. The webcam is added through the Mainsail dashboard and its stream then appears in the dashboard. The webcam is an optional accessory, not part of the base package.

  • Standard USB webcams that are compatible with Klipper
  • Most UVC-compliant webcams work — verify the specific model works with Klipper before relying on it
  • No specific Ginger Additive model is required

  1. Connect the webcam to a USB port on the Raspberry Pi.
  2. Route the cable carefully: make sure the webcam cable does not interfere with the gantry movement and cannot get caught or snagged as the gantry moves.
  3. Reboot the printer and verify that the webcam’s own indicator light turns on (confirms the Pi is powering it).
  4. In the Mainsail dashboard, go to Interface Settings → Webcams and press Add Webcam.
  5. Assign a name to the webcam and save. The stream then appears on the dashboard.

For monitoring from outside the local network, connect the Raspberry Pi to an Obico account (formerly The Spaghetti Detective). Obico provides remote viewing and AI failure detection. See the Obico Klipper camera guide: https://www.obico.io/blog/klipper-camera/.
