Hopper extender

A funnel-shaped add-on that fits on top of the standard G1 hopper to allow manual top-up of pellets mid-print or to add a second material color without fully reloading the system.

What it is

The hopper extender is a printed or sourced component that mounts to the top opening of the hopper. It increases the accessible volume of the hopper top and provides a wider opening for manually pouring pellets directly — bypassing the vacuum transport system for top-up additions.

When to use it

Mid-print top-up: when a long print risks running out of pellets before the vacuum refill cycle triggers
Color additions: for multicolor setups where a second material color is manually added at a specific layer
Testing small quantities: adding a few hundred grams of a new material without filling the full bucket

Installation

The extender slots onto the hopper top opening
Ensure it is sealed at the connection point — any air gap reduces vacuum suction efficiency inside the hopper
Use a zip tie (fascetta) or tape to secure the connection if the fit is loose
The slot/opening in the extender should be oriented so the closure screw can tighten properly

Moisture condensation in humid environments

In workshops or environments with high ambient humidity (summer months, coastal locations), moisture can condense inside the hopper extender and deposit on the pellets — especially when the extender is not in use and pellets are left exposed. If you notice unexplained moisture symptoms (foaming, surface defects) that drying does not fully resolve:

Remove pellets from the hopper extender when not printing for extended periods
Use the dryer’s direct-feed tube instead of the extender when possible in humid conditions
Consider sealing the extender opening between sessions

Limitations

Does not replace the vacuum feed system for long prints — it is a supplement for short top-ups
Requires manual attention during printing if used for color changes
