Procedures
Step-by-step operations for the G1 pellet printer.
First boot and setup
Section titled “First boot and setup”- First boot checklist — physical setup, WiFi, bed leveling, Z offset, Rotation Volume
- G1OS installation — flash G1OS onto the Raspberry Pi SD card, and the ordered list of what to do once it boots
- Initialize the printer — give the machine its serial number so it can fetch its own configuration. Always needed after flashing the card; also the migration path for machines that predate the Configurator
Daily operation
Section titled “Daily operation”-
Running a print — the whole sequence for an ordinary print, and what to check on the first layers
-
Loading pellets — how to fill the hopper, mixing recycled material, pre-checks
-
Removing the print — wait for room temperature, and what to do when it will not come off
-
Material change and purge — when to purge, light vs full purge, color change
-
Starting the dryer — temperature settings, loading pellets, what to do if it doesn’t start
-
Firmware restart — reload Klipper config without rebooting the Pi; also via console (
FIRMWARE_RESTART)
Calibration
Section titled “Calibration”- Z offset and first layer
- Rotation Volume calibration
- Pressure Advance tuning — PA 0.2 / smooth time 0.5 on every nozzle; how to tune from there
Maintenance
Section titled “Maintenance”-
What to check, and when — the whole picture: what is genuinely routine, what waits for a symptom, and what never needs doing
-
Hopper cleaning — remove dust/fines/color residue, clean sensor, when to do it
-
Nozzle replacement — CHANGE_NOZZLE macro, PTFE tape (3 wraps), sizes 1/1.8/3/5/8 mm
-
Lubricating linear rails — when and how to oil rail carriages to prevent friction and layer shifts
-
Transporting the G1 — disassembly order, packing, what to recalibrate after reassembly (~1 hour)
Repairs
Section titled “Repairs”- Barrel clog purging procedure
- Heater band replacement — rule out the sensor and the relay first; band replacement goes through Ginger Additive support
Slicer & software
Section titled “Slicer & software”- Ginger Slicer — the slicer section
- Ginger Slicer first install — download, install, connect to printer, import OrcaSlicer profiles
- Creating a material profile — temperature, Rotation Volume, MVS, SmoothFlow, step-by-step
- Mainsail dashboard basics — navigate g1os.local, Update Manager, heightmap, logs, reboot options
- Updating the printer — the two separate updates: software components, and your machine’s own configuration
- SSH access to the printer — command line on the Pi, logs, service restarts
- Flashing the control boards — the Octopus, extruder_board and feeder board firmware, which neither the Update Manager nor an SD flash touches
Related
Section titled “Related”- Components — components involved in each procedure
- Troubleshooting — when a procedure goes wrong
